Team of the Week

Team of the Week (14)

A new innovation for this year, TOTW will be selected week by week. The idea is that it is an
eclectic team based on outstanding performances. As such it could be taken to represent
the ‘best of’ the Palace Shield and Northern League on any given week. Intended as an individual accolade but it is
also as a point of pride for clubs whose players accumulate TOTW appearances over the

We will endeavour to select a balanced team with top and middle order bats, seamers, slow
bowlers and wicket-keeper. A captain will also be nominated. In other words, how the team
would be set up if it was actually going to take the field.

As it is a ‘best of’ inevitably weighting will be given to achievements at the higher levels. But
it is recognised that week by week there are outstanding performances at all levels. So great
performances that have not quite made TOTW will be mentioned in despatches.

Statement from the NPCL Executive

The Northern Premier Cricket League fixture between Fulwood & Broughton CC and Blackpool CC on Sunday 2nd June played at Fulwood & Broughton was abandoned because the pitch was dangerous. The gravity of this ought not to be underestimated. Players, match officials and the League must not be put in this position again. Whilst the NPCL aims to promote the enjoyment and love for cricket as a game for all, a duty of care to players remains paramount.

In emergency meeting, the NPCL Executive found that, in failing to maintain their ground to an acceptable standard, Fulwood & Broughton CC were in breach of the NPCL Code of Conduct (2.1.2). The sanction for this breach is an immediate deduction of 15 league points with a further 50-point deduction remaining suspended until the end of the season.

There are implications for upcoming fixtures. The next scheduled league fixture at Fulwood & Broughton CC is on Saturday 29th June. Before the NPCL can permit this fixture to go ahead, there needs to be remedial work carried out under the guidance of an ECB pitch inspector with clear evidence that the guidance has been followed.

The club have already agreed to move their home cup tie on Sunday 9th June which will now be played at Euxton CC.

It is understood that the problems require significantly more than a short-term fix. It is equally appreciated that a long-term recovery plan will require substantial investment. Through the operation of its development fund, the NPCL remains committed to supporting clubs in their long-term improvements to playing and practice facilities.

Longridge defeated Kendal in the delayed NPL T20 on Friday Night.

Having been rained off on Finals Day, the two teams eventually met at the NMG on Friday.

Having lost the toss and being asked to bat, Kendal got off to a flier with Cumbria Player Freddie Fallows blasting 18 from 9, however once De Villiers dismissed him wickets began to fall with Kendal slipping to 39-4 after Greenall snagged Pro Jonathan.

Lower order resistance gave them a chance finishing on 113-8 from their allocated 20 overs.

In reply, Longridge were comfortable with all the top order making starts before Keeper Batsman Tom Turner (40no) and Rob Holllinghurst (16no) saw the team into the National Stages with 4 overs to spare.

Longridge now represent the Northern League and all our clubs in the ECB T20 Club Blast, with the Regional final taking place at Bradshaw CC on 6th August.
